Happy New Year! Wow, did 2022 fly or what? I am so excited about our new goals we have in store for this year! If you’re joining us, 2022 was the year I officially launched Definitely DIY’ed and planned to gain some momentum in the DIY world.
What really happened was that I launched the blog and then completely underestimated how much time (and money) “DIY blogging” actually needed, haha!
So, 2022 was primarily spent trying to find a balance between a full-time career, family, fun, vacations, home renovations, and everything that is involved with starting and maintaining a blog (blog posts, photography, content, editing, social platforms, accounting, newsletters, and so much more!). Needless to say, I didn’t succeed in every category, or you wouldn’t be reading this blurb of a paragraph right now, haha!
But 2022 brought so many amazing insights into the blogging world, and I’m so excited to take what I’ve learned and crush our goals in 2023!
Our 2023 Goals for the new year:
- Post consistently & more frequently.
When I started, I had this crazy goal of posting to the blog 3xs a week and to Instagram feed daily! OMG! That’s like the level of a full-time blogger! (Your girl doesn’t have enough time in the day for that!) Instead, my new goal this year is to post once a week (I’m thinking Fridays!) and show up more often in my Instagram stories! The bottom line is that I want to provide you valuable content and make sure I’m not so overwhelmed that I stop everything entirely.
- Provide more educational how-to’s. Even for the little stuff!
The how-to’s are honestly my favorite part! I started doing project walkthroughs on Instagram towards the end of last year, and this part excites me the most (much more than a before and after)! This year I want to take it further and dive into a step-by-step process of what we are doing in our projects. Oh, we’re installing a doorknob? I’m going to teach you how. What about those cabinets we’re building? I’m going to teach you how!
- Share more in-depth project progress.
This piggybacks on the item before, but the goal is to share more progress! I also plan to share more progress posts on the blog and social media feeds (not just stories), so it has a forever home for you to reference!
- Provide more diversified & valuable content.
Even though most of what I share is DIY, I want to start sharing a little more diversified content (all home related, of course). You’ll start seeing more of the types of tools we use for projects (and how to use them), our favorite home products, breaking down the basics of DIY, and even a “whoops, we did that wrong series!”
- Engage more frequently with our followers (aka you!).
Our followers (aka you!) are why this whole platform exists, and this year, I’m making it a goal to engage more frequently with you. This means showing up in Instagram stories daily, promptly replying to emails and comments, consistently sending out our bi-weekly newsletter, etc.! You guys are it, and I’m honored to be able to engage with you!
- Remember to be my own cheerleader!
It really is a whirlwind to try and balance a DIY blog with everything else in life – full-time career, family, children, fun, vacations, etc.- this year will be no exception! My supporters (aka you!) are so amazing at cheering me on through all of this, but sometimes I forget that I need to also be cheering myself on! Especially since I tend to be my hardest critic! This year, I plan to be more mindful of self-doubt and instead focus on being my greatest cheerleader!
A friend reminded me a few weeks ago to talk to yourself the same way you would speak to your children, best friends, or loved ones when they are tackling something hard. -> You lift them up and cheer them on! So why wouldn’t you do the same for yourself?
That’s it! 6 simple goals for the new year and I’m so excited to crush 2023!
